Sunday the 4th of May saw the first Western
Clinic and Practice Show at the Llanerch Equestrian Centre, in Area 2. The day
dawned a touch miserable on the weather front, but the enthusiasm of the
participants could not be dampened. (Apart from a significant soaking during
the trail class!!)
The practice day was designed to welcome new participants
to the sport and to also provide a much needed environment for both
inexperienced horses and riders alike to "have a go". The morning sessions were
broken down into three main areas - Pleasure and Horsemanship, which was
instructed by David Brindley, Trail, which was instructed by Tim Keeley, and
Showmanship which was instructed by Michelle Surguy Price, all of whom gave the
benefit of their experience free of charge. The participants then got the
chance to put into practice what they had learned with slightly more formal
show classes being run in the afternoon, kindly judged by David
Brindley.
A unique opportunity to gain insight into what
the judges are looking for, gain tips and hints from the instructors, together
with open discussion at all stages of the day, provided a unique and fun
learning experience, none of which would have been possible without the immense
effort that was put into organising the event by Jeanette and Tim Keeley. Our
thanks must also go to the other instructors, and especially to the proprietor
of the LLanerch Equestrian Centre, Sian Greeley Jones, who provided the use of
her excellent facilities free of charge enabling the whole day to be run at no
cost to the membership
